Root planing is deeper periodontal cleaning below the gumline when gum disease or deeper deposits are found. We assess the gums and periodontal pockets first, then explain whether routine scaling is enough or whether deeper root-surface cleaning is appropriate.

Direct answers first
The useful questions are whether deeper periodontal treatment is actually needed, what it costs and how it differs from a routine cleaning.
Our current range is Rs. 10,000–20,000. The final quote depends on the periodontal areas that need treatment and what we find during assessment.
No. Bleeding can come from gingivitis, periodontitis, local irritation or other causes. We examine the gums before deciding whether routine cleaning or deeper periodontal treatment is appropriate.
It can be part of gum-disease management, but it cannot guarantee that every loose tooth can be saved. Tooth mobility, bone support and the overall periodontal condition affect prognosis.
Before treatment
Root planing should be based on periodontal findings rather than booked as a generic “deep clean.”
We look for bleeding, inflammation, recession, calculus, mobility and deeper periodontal pockets.
Dental X-rays may be advised when bone support or another dental problem needs assessment.
If deposits are superficial, routine scaling may be enough. Deeper periodontal disease can require root-surface instrumentation.
Smoking, diabetes, home care and previous periodontal history can affect gum health and the follow-up plan.
Scaling vs root planing
The name of the procedure should follow the gum diagnosis. We use the depth and location of deposits, gum inflammation and periodontal findings to decide how much treatment is appropriate.
Best suited to plaque, tartar and surface stain when deeper periodontal treatment is not indicated. It cleans the visible tooth and accessible areas around the gumline and has its own separate treatment guide.
Targets selected root surfaces below the gumline when deeper periodontal deposits or disease are present. The amount of treatment depends on which areas are affected rather than automatically treating every tooth the same way.
Follow-up is based on risk and response. Patients with a history of periodontal disease may need a different maintenance interval from someone having routine preventive cleaning.
After root planing
Some tenderness or sensitivity can occur after deeper periodontal cleaning. We explain individual aftercare and the findings that would need earlier review rather than assuming every patient follows the same recovery timetable.
Gentle brushing and appropriate interdental cleaning help reduce new plaque accumulation. We can advise a method that fits the gum condition and spaces between your teeth.
Root surfaces may feel more sensitive after calculus is removed and inflamed tissues settle. Persistent or worsening symptoms should be reviewed.
Smoking and poorly controlled diabetes can affect periodontal healing and disease progression. Tell us about relevant health conditions and medicines during assessment.
Follow-up helps us reassess bleeding, inflammation, pocketing and home care so the next maintenance interval is based on your response.
Long-term gum care
Periodontal disease can recur when plaque control, smoking, diabetes, maintenance or other risk factors are not addressed. A good plan combines professional care with realistic home maintenance.
Improving gum inflammation is a useful sign, but persistent bleeding, swelling, bad taste or increasing tooth mobility needs review rather than repeated self-treatment.
When swollen gums shrink after inflammation improves, existing recession or longer-looking teeth can become more noticeable. This does not automatically mean the cleaning damaged the gums.
There is no single recall interval that is right for everyone. We base follow-up on periodontal findings, disease history, home care and risk factors.
Current price guidance
Our current root planing range is Rs. 10,000–20,000. We confirm the exact quote after assessing how many areas need periodontal treatment and how extensive the condition is.
The range applies to root planing / periodontal deep-cleaning treatment at AMDC. It should not be confused with routine scaling and polishing.
The number of areas treated, periodontal severity and whether care is staged over more than one visit can affect the final plan.
If root planing is not indicated, we can guide you to the separate scaling and polishing service instead.
You should know the recommended treatment and cost before the procedure starts.
What happens next
The exact sequence varies with the periodontal findings, but the decision starts with diagnosis rather than an automatic deep-cleaning package.
We examine the gums, bleeding, deposits and periodontal pockets.
We explain whether routine scaling, root planing or another dental approach is appropriate.
When indicated, deposits below the gumline are removed and root surfaces are instrumented carefully; local anaesthetic may be used.
We advise home care and the timing of periodontal review or maintenance according to your response and risk factors.

Message us on WhatsAppOur current root planing price range is Rs. 10,000–20,000. The exact quote depends on the areas involved and the periodontal findings.
Root planing is part of non-surgical periodontal treatment. Deposits are removed from below the gumline and root surfaces are cleaned and smoothed where clinically indicated.
No. Routine scaling and polishing focuses mainly on plaque and tartar around accessible tooth surfaces. Root planing is used when deeper periodontal cleaning below the gumline is required.
No treatment can guarantee that gum disease will never return. Long-term control depends on the initial condition, oral hygiene, smoking and other risk factors, and appropriate periodontal maintenance.
Local anaesthetic may be used when deeper areas are being treated or when sensitivity would otherwise make treatment uncomfortable. We decide this after assessing the areas that need cleaning.
Persistent bleeding, swelling, gum recession, loose teeth, bad taste or ongoing bad breath should be assessed. These symptoms can have several causes and should not be self-diagnosed.
